Ecothene Damproof Proof Course (DPC) is now required in the construction of new buildings to prevent rising dampness and in some situations to prevent penetrating damp.

LAYING OF DPC: DPC should be laid on a smooth bed of fresh cement mortar. Care should be taken to ensure that the DPC are not damaged, torn or punctured during the process of bricklaying. There should be minimum 150mm lapping at any joint between two sections of DPC.
The DPC laid should cover the entire width of the bricks.
After laying the DPC, a fresh layer of mortar should be laid over the DPC as soon as possible, followed by the next course of brick. This creates good adhesion between the brick units, mortar and DPC.
